Dearborn, Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Lecturer III

What is your area of specialty?

I am fortunate to have earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Wayne State University in 2018, with an emphasis on the application of probability theory to problems in financial mathematics.

What are you proud of as a lecturer?

Seeing the success of my students and watching them grow in one (or a series) of my courses makes me feel immense levels of happiness and pride. I enjoy being inspired by the passion and heart I observe on a daily basis in students across all of my classes. I am also proud of my contributions related to the development of some new courses in my department (Math 1151, Math 100, and Math 101) aimed at increasing student success in Calculus I.

What might others not know about you?

In my undergrad, I double majored in mathematics and psychology. Despite now working in math, I have always had a deep interest in both subjects. However, I didn't have the opportunity to do any psychology coursework until I began my undergrad program --- since psychology courses weren't offered in my high school.. Many of the things I learned in my undergrad psychology classes (in particular, social psychology and positive psychology) continue to apply to and shape my daily life 12 years later.

What is something that you are proud of outside your role as a lecturer?

In my 30s, I am putting an intentional focus on self-discovery and self-improvement. One of the most important skills I practice daily is having a continual conversation with myself, in which I examine, question, and challenge my thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.  This exercise has had a measurably positive impact on my life in recent years, which I am really grateful for.
