LEO Flint Lecturers Bargaining Recap 6.8.26

The LEO-Flint Bargaining Team met again with management this morning only to receive another offer of $0 in additional annual increases. This follows our significant movement from 6.5% additional increases to 5.5% in an attempt to bargain in good faith. Management claims that we entered into this agreement for a salary re-opener with no guarantee of increases; they claim that because the annual increases of the LEO-GLAM unit and UMF AFT-AAUP (tenure-track unit) were not higher than 3%, we cannot achieve anything more than the 3% we previously bargained for. We pointed out in their own presentation of the financial situation at UM-Flint that the budget has a $6 million surplus for this year and that we almost doubled the increase in undergraduate credit hour generation that was required for the re-opener. Flint lecturers deserve a share of that tuition revenue.

They continue to tell us that parity is not realistic and show us that they are not here to bargain. We met with over 50 allies and lecturers in caucus today who all came together to discuss our next steps and called Chancellor Alexander's office to demand a fair share for Flint lecturers! We need the support of all of our LEOs and allies to call the Chancellor’s office in the next two days. And spread that ask to your colleagues, friends, and family.

“Hi Chancellor Alexander,

This is [insert your name], and I am [insert title].  I am calling with the LEO Lecturers at Flint, who are currently at the bargaining table, to ask that you value their labor and contributions to the University of Michigan Flint and the huge increases in enrollment over the past two years. We urge you to authorize your bargaining team to increase the annual raises offered to the Flint lecturers for the next two years. Lecturers have worked hard to support the university and they deserve a fair share that recognizes these contributions.”

Call today and then ask at least 5 others to call! Finally, if you have not signed on to the support letter, please do.

Attention LEO Lecturers: we need as many of you as we can to join on Wednesday, June 10th at 9am for our next scheduled bargaining session. Register to attend. Let’s show administration we mean business!
