LEO Flint Lecturers Bargaining Recap 6.3.26

The LEO Flint Bargaining Team passed our opening proposal to management on Monday; we proposed an additional 6.5% raise for the 26-27 and 27-28 academic years. This would give Flint members a total 4-year annual raise equivalent to the annual raises Ann Arbor has and will receive for this contract.

Today, after a long presentation by Flint’s Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance painting an extremely grim view of Flint’s financial future, we received management's counterproposal.  Despite nearly doubling the increase in undergraduate student credit hours required to reopen the contract, management returned a counter of no additional increases. Zero.

What can we take from this counter? Is the hard work of lecturers on the Flint campus over the past two years to retain and attract students worth nothing? In spite of a 19.4 % increase in undergraduate credit hours, there is STILL no money for us. Without lecturers this campus wouldn’t be able to sustain its student body. To quote management: “Nothing has changed.” We know this is not true. Even Chancellor Alexander’s messages and annual report says so! It is high time for the University to recognize the hard work we have done and invest in their Lecturers!

We appreciate all the support we have been receiving from our Dearborn and Ann Arbor colleagues and we need to keep pushing. Please register to join us for our next session on June 8 via Zoom at 9am. We hope to receive a counter proposal from management at 9am and then use the remainder of the time to take action and demand our fair share! We are inviting LEO-GLAM members and other allies to join us at 9:30 -11am on a separate Zoom. Share broadly and let’s get as many people as we can showing up to support Flint lecturers!
