U-M FLINT LECTURERS UNION VOTE TO RATIFY THEIR SALARY RE-OPENER AGREEMENT

On Monday evening, the LEO Flint lecturers bargaining unit of the University of Michigan Lecturers’ Union (LEO - AFT MI Local 6244) voted to ratify an agreement reached during salary re-opener negotiations with the University of Michigan. This agreement covers the annual increases for the lecturers on the UM-Flint campus for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 academic years. Lecturers on that campus will receive additional 1% annual increases for the remaining two years of the contract, on top of the 3% annual increases previously bargained for in the 2024-2028 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

On June 1, 2026, UM-Flint LEO Lecturers began bargaining for increased annual raises for the final two years of the LEO Lecturer contract. The 2024-2028 Collective Bargaining Agreement included a salary reopener provision that would allow LEO to negotiate additional increases to lecturer annual increases in Dearborn and Flint if “annual undergraduate credit hour generation on the campus cumulatively increases by 10% from that of the 2023-2024 academic year, known as the ‘10th day count.’” On the Flint campus, the threshold was surpassed with an undergraduate credit hour increase of 19.4%, triggering a return to bargaining about salary for its Flint lecturers.

“This additional increase was only possible due to the support of our LEO members and allies and their participation in the bargaining process. Flint lecturers are a huge part of the recent student growth and retention that we have seen at the UM-Flint campus and this additional increase is a bare minimum recognition of that. As we look to the future, we will stand in solidarity with our union siblings and continue to fight for lecturers across all three campuses”
