Bargaining on Tuesday, July 6, began with the administration presenting a counter proposal to the union's offer of June 30th. The LEO team spent most of the day evaluating the management proposal, and considered a range of options that would improve the total compensation package for LEO members. It was clear that the two sides are still far apart when it comes to part-timer health benefits and compensation issues. The union put a counter proposal on the table at the end of the day, which would still protect part-timers, increase salaries, and take a small step in closing the gap between our salaries and the teaching proportion of tenure-track salaries. The administration rejected the proposal and then presented LEO with a copy of a letter to the Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC) asking for a mediator to intervene in the collective bargaining process. The next bargaining session is scheduled for Monday, July 19. LEO members are encouraged to attend that session, and to watch for updates. |
