LEO-UM contract negotiations have continued into mid-May, with sessions scheduled for Thursday, May 13 (full day) and Friday, May 14 (half day, starting at noon). Negotiations in May have focused on the appointments, performance evaluation and layoff/ recall articles. The union is seeking to provide reasonable job security for lecturers, an especially acute concern following the dismissal of activist and LEO VP Kirsten Herold after 18 years of teaching. "Some progress is being made," said LEO Bargaining Chair Jim Anderson, "but it's hard to define 'reasonable' in operational terms. We are trying various approaches." Other remaining issues include compensation (benefits, raises, starting salaries), senior lecturers, the No Strike article, special case appointments, international lecturers, and contract end date. After the session on May 14,, the next bargaining is scheduled for Thursday June 3 (all day). All sessions are in the School of Social Work. |
