Bargaining continues deep into April
Saturday, 24 April 2010 00:00

The LEO-UM bargaining teams met in an informal session on Wednesday, April 21, discussing issues of performance evaluation.  There was a frank exchange of views.

Next, the teams met in formal sessions on Friday, April 23, at the School of Social Work.   They exchanged questions and views on Article XII (Layoff and Recall) and Article XIX (Performance Evaluation).  In particular, LEO President Bonnie Halloran described several situations in which lecturers were the target of inconsistent, unreasonable or unstated evaluation criteria, often resulting in the failure of a major review.

LEO sees reasonable job protection for lecturers as the goal in negotiations over both of these key articles; the union seeks evaluation criteria with as much clarity as the subject allows and procedural changes to make the process as fair and transparent as possible.

The next bargaining session will take place on Friday, April 30, at the School of Social Work in Ann Arbor.

As always, LEO members are urged to attend all or part of the session.
