Bargaining on April 2
Saturday, 03 April 2010 11:34

Despite the grim news that LEO Vice President Kirsten Herold had been failed in her major review by the Ann Arbor English Department, the LEO bargaining team met in tense sessions with the administration team on Friday, April 2.

In the morning, LEO answered questions about the package that it presented last week.  In the afternoon, the administration provided its counter proposal s on raises, minimum salaries and the health benefits package. Their latest proposal increased their Ann Arbor annual raise offer from 1.5% to 1.75%, but offered no increases in minimum starting salaries.  The administration continues to ignore the union's calls for equity.   In terms of benefits, the administration offered small cash payments to some unit members that LEO characterized as grossly inadequate to mitigate the huge negative impact of benefits changes on the UM's poorest paid faculty.

I feel bad for the two tenured faculty on the administration's team. I wonder if they know how little they are paid compared to the rest of the team? I wish we coudl negotiate for the lowest paid tenured faculty as well!
