| Lecturer picked to head UM-Flint teaching center |

Jan Worth-Nelson, Lecturer IV of English at UM-Flint and long-time LEO activist, has been chosen to be the Interim Director of the Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching, effective September 1, 2010. Worth-Nelson began working for UM-Flint in 1987 as Re-entry Center Coordinator, and since 1993 has taught and designed various writing courses for the English Department, including graduate courses. She is the recipient of the1999 Dorothea E. Wyatt Award and the 2008 Teaching Excellence Award,
In announcing her appointment to the Flint campus, Provost Gerard Voland noted that Worth-Nelson "has already hit the ground running proposing several exciting initiatives." Voland listed her many recent accomplishments: Just in the last five years, Jan has taught 743 students in 40 sections of 9 different courses along with developing several of them including three graduate courses. Although Jan is best known for her exemplary teaching, her research is in writing and poetry, with 20 professional presentations, 1 novel, 8 journal articles, many columns or commentaries, 9 published essays, 17 published poems, and 7 short stories, together with numerous profiles and features, reviews, chapbooks, and anthologies. In addition, she has given over 20 public performances and has won numerous awards for her writing and poetry. Congratulations, Jan!
