"WE ARE ONE!" was the rallying cry in Ann Arbor and across the nation on Monday, April 4, as concerned citizens gathered to protest cuts to education funding and political attacks on public workers and organized labor. The date marked the 43rd anniversary of the assasination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was killed while supporting striking sanitation workers in Memphis, TN. A rally in Ingalls Mall drew more than 700 people. Among the speakers who addressed the crowd were LEO President Bonnie Halloran and LEO Ann Arbor Campus Co-chair Ian Robinson. Halloran characterized the proposed cuts and legislative action as about power, not budgets. For more coverage of the Ann Arbor event, see "Hundreds Protest Cuts . . . " (AnnArbor.com).
